For the November 20 issue of People’s magazine, Patrick Dempsey was named 2023 “Sexiest Man Alive.” The award is given annually to a man that groups, fans, and celebrities see as the most handsome man of the year. In the running with Dempsey for 2023 was NFL Philadelphia Eagles Center, Jason Kelce, Pedro Pascal, Usher, and Timothee Chalamet.
Patrick Dempsey is best known for his role of Derek Shepard in the show “Greys Anatomy.” The show began in 2005, and the fan base of Dempsey instantly began. His friendship with Ellen Pompeo throughout the show also helped raise him to fame. Sophomore Layla Walker said, “I love “Greys Anatomy,” and I love Derek Shepherd. Patrick Dempsey definitely deserves to be the sexiest man alive in my opinion.”
Dempsey might be most known for “Grey’s Anatomy,” but his acting career doesn’t end there. He has acted in many romantic comedies including “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Valentines Day,” and “Made of Honor.” Dempsey is also in the drama series “Devils,” where he plays one of the main characters Dominic Morgan.
Acting is Dempsey’s main job, but that isn’t all he does. He has also been an American motorsport athlete. He raced with Porsche from 2009 to 2015 in a total of 68 races. His career of racing ended due to him wanting to step back and focus on family.
When Dempsey found out about winning the award he joked to People magazine, “I don’t know why there should be anyone after me.” Sophomore Ndeye Dieng says, “I completely agree with Patrick Dempsey. He is a silver fox and there’s no need for anyone else to get the award.”
In the interview with People, Dempsey continues by saying, “It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive.” That something positive is the Dempsey Center. This center is a cancer care and support center that offers support groups, counseling and therapy. Dempsey founded the Dempsey Center in 2008 after experiencing his mother’s battle with ovarian cancer. Wanting an outlet for others impacted by cancer, he created a space for relief and comfort at no cost.
The award committee takes a lot of time to decide on the recipient, often starting for the following year the day after it is given. The award not only encompasses someone good looking, but someone with a good personality. The 2023 “Sexiest Man Alive Award” was given to Patrick Dempsey for his fame, looks and good heart.
