Millbrook signing day

Millbrook signing day athletes come together to celebrate their accomplishments.

In the media center, Millbrook hosts a signing day for the seniors who are committing to play a sport in college. This year’s signing day was on November 9. This day brings Millbrook students, staff, teammates, coaches, and families together to celebrate the athletes. Making it to the college level within a sport is very impressive. The fall signing athletes include Lauren Hollis, Nixon Carpenter, Avery Grantham, Kieran Mederos, Max Deangelo, Sloane Spessard, Emerson Conigliaro, Kiki Horne, and Syniya Thomas. This year’s signing day had a good turnout and was very successful.

The athletes who participate in this event love all the support they have received from their peers who attended. Senior Nixon Carpenter, who is committed to playing soccer at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) said, “Signing day was really special because I got to celebrate with my family and friends, and also celebrate with the other student-athletes who are signing as well.” She plays on the Women’s varsity soccer team and does well in school. Coach Derek Blackwelder shared kind words at her signing and spoke on her positive impact within the Women’s Soccer program. Each player picks a coach to give a quick speech and then they thank everyone who has helped them reach the level they have made it to.

There is a lot of time spent organizing signing day for it to run smoothly and quickly. Millbrook athletic director Coach East said, “It’s always exciting for coaches and myself to be able to watch our Millbrook kids sign to play at the level.” Coach East and all others involved in the athletic program here at Millbrook are extremely supportive and love watching success come from these student-athletes. Without the time and effort of staff and parents, this day would not have been possible!
