The Millbrook graduating class of 2025 has many talented, hard-working, and involved students. One of the many is Peyton Cleveland. Nominated for the title of Outstanding Senior, Peyton has earned recognition for the way she has contributed to her school, both in and out of the classroom.
Cleveland’s high school career has been marked by an impressive range of achievements. She is actively involved in a number of extracurriculars that reflect her commitment to serving others and her ability to balance multiple responsibilities. As a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), she played a significant role, often stepping in to help lead discussions. In addition to FCA, Peyton also leads Campus Light Bible Study, where she helps guide her fellow students in their faith and provide a space for spiritual growth. Her role as a student leader in Young Life further reflects her commitment to creating a positive environment and experience for others. Peyton’s leadership doesn’t end with these organizations, she has also served as captain for the North Carolina Football Club (NCFC), a position that demands dedication, teamwork, and discipline.
Beyond athletics and leadership, Peyton excels academically, maintaining a strong record that has earned her membership in the National Honor Society (NHS). Being part of NHS is a reflection of her academic achievements, as well as her dedication to service, leadership, and character, qualities that are highly valued in the honor society.
After graduation, Cleveland will be attending East Carolina University (ECU), where she will join the Honors College. At ECU she plans to major in interior design and pursue a minor in a finance-related field. Peyton’s decision to apply to the Honors College was driven by her passion for learning and her desire to challenge herself further. “I took it upon myself to apply, and I just poured it all out there, so to be able to be a part of that learning community[…]is something that I am excited to carry with me throughout my time at ECU!”
While Peyton has clearly excelled in academics and extracurricular activities, it is her work ethic and leadership that has gathered praise from teachers. Shawna Populorum has worked with Peyton since freshman year, “Peyton Cleveland is one of the most outstanding students I’ve had in my seven years of teaching. [In FCA] if someone is unable to speak that day, she can step right up and step in and fall in the gap.” Populorum also praised Cleveland for her ability to relate to other students, stating, “She is so excellent with relating to other students!” This ability to connect with people and bring out the best in them, truly shows the remarkableness of Peyton, making her a well-respected person at Millbrook.
Cleveland is also balancing her academics and extracurriculars, as Populorum adds, “She now has an interior design internship she’s working on, so she’s quite busy!” Peyton’s ability to juggle multiple commitments while maintaining a high standard of work is a testament to her discipline and time management skills.
Although Peyton is known for her academic achievements and leadership roles, her friendships are equally important to her. Millbrook senior Sanai Cole described Peyton as a person who brings authenticity and warmth. Cole comments, “I’ve known Peyton for 2 years now! She has to be the realest and funniest person I’ve ever met. We’ve had English and gym together, and every time we’re together I know I’m gonna get some good tea and a good laugh! Love her!”
In addition to being a source of laughter, Cole reflects on the way Peyton approaches friendships, with kindness and understanding. Cole quotes a sentiment that captures the essence of Peyton, “a friend who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.”
Peyton’s ability to balance her academic, extracurricular, and social responsibilities is a key part of what makes her stand out as a student and individual. Her leadership, work ethic, and kindness have earned her the respect of her teachers and peers. As Peyton prepares for her next chapter at ECU there is no doubt that she will continue to make a positive impact in whatever she does. In a class full of talented individuals, Peyton Cleveland’s achievements and influence have set her apart, earning her the title of Outstanding Senior.
