The hit show, “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” all began with a TikTok video. A couple of moms, who were settled in Utah, decided to make silly dance videos and create a community based on their daily experiences, MomTok. One thing that shocked the internet the most about this group was the fact that all of these moms were mormons.
Most viewers of these videos couldn’t believe that these Mormon mothers would be making dancing TikTok videos because of their religion and children. Right after the internet settled down about the odd combination, MomTok creator Taylor Frankie Paul revealed on a TikTok live video that she, her husband and another member of MomTok were involved in a swinging scandal. Even though Paul tried to make it clear that most of MomTok was not involved in the swinging, the internet still took the hate to all of them. And so begins the start to “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” a reality tv show following the lives of these MomTok women after the announcement of a sinful swinging scandal.
Season three of “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” contained a lot of new information on the cliffhanger left at the end of season two. The first half of season was focused solely on the emotional love affair between Jessi Draper Ngatikaura (SLOMW) and Marciano Brunette (Vanderpump Villa). Intertwined in this affair was Demi Engemann (SLOMW) who was accused of having a love affair of her own with Brunette.
Most of the cast members were getting fed up with the lack of answers on what really happened when the SLOMW cast visited the Vanderpump Villa and took matters into their own hands. Mormon wives, Mayci Neeley and Mikayla Matthews, decided to meet up with Brunette and questioned him on what happened between him and Draper Ngatikaura and Engemann.
After many questions from all of MomTok and a lie detector test there was finally a sense of normalcy in the group. Ex-MomTok member Whitney Leavitt decided to come back to the show after quitting due to too much stress from the group. The rest of the wives were not impressed with Leavitt’s sudden appearance and interest in the show because they believed she only came back so she would be eligible to audition for Dancing With The Stars. Leavitt admitted that they were right and she was not rejoining the group for sisterhood.
Fans have had mixed feelings on the recent season and the controversy presented in it. One common thought about the season was the growth of many cast members. Senior Kennedy Rivers said, “The majority of the cast has shown so much growth within the three seasons and have really become well loved among so many people,” when asked her thoughts on season three. The Salt Lake Tribune stated in their “5 takeaways from Season 3 of ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’” article that in this season Jessi Draper Ngatikaura “grows, and audiences get to know her — flaws and all — a bit better.”
The growth of cast members wasn’t the only take away found. Many fans takeaway that Whitney Leavitt is the “villain” of this show. Leavitt is seen as “stubborn” and “unable to take accountability” by her fellow castmates and some fans completely agree. There are a couple viewers out there who don’t see Leavitt as the “villain”, though. Senior Ella Marie Moore shared her thoughts on Leavitt after the most recent season,“I really like Whitney. People think this is like a crazy opinion but I think that all the things she’s done in her life and online aren’t the best but I do think she was villainized for things that other girls [MomTok members] did also.”
Season three of the show also brought a lot of raw emotions to the viewers. Other than the ongoing love affair between Draper Ngatikaura and Brunette there were many emotional events shared on screen. Mikayla Matthews and Jace Terry shared their intimacy issues and Matthew’s story of sexual abuse as a child. The members of Mom-Tok and Dad-Tok have gone through many challenges throughout their lives but also in the past season.
On Thursday December 4th the “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” reunion will premiere and be hosted by Stassi Schroeder. The show has been renewed for a fourth season and fans are eagerly waiting to see what’s next for these Mormon wives.
