Flying high, the X-Games athletes will try to do the impossible, breaking records and doing stunts never before seen! Above, one of the highlighted events of the year, the ski halfpipe, is being performed.

On January 26, the first big sports event of the year will be taking place, the winter X-games. This year  the games are being held in Aspen, Colorado, on Buttermilk Mountain, with the biggest and brightest stars in the action sports world. With veterans to the games coming back this year like Shaun White, Jamie Anderson, Chloe Kim, and Torin Yater-Wallace, along with the games young and  undiscovered stars coming to the surface, the X-games are sure to thrill.

 This year some major events are being featured, such as the ski and snowboarding big air, slopestyle, and SuperPipe. There will also be some snow bike and snowmobile events being held during games. Sophomore Abby Gelband said, “I really enjoy watching the snowboarding events. It’s super crazy and interesting to watch them do the tricks. I just wish that I could do them myself.”  In the SuperPipe this year, you can watch X-Games great  Shaun White try to win another gold medal.

 White, arguably the most famous US. snowboarder ever, is currently 29 years old and first competed in the X games at the age of 13! He holds the X-Games record for medals at 25 total medals, and the record for most gold medals with a whopping 15! Maybe his most impressive feat is that he was the first and only person to score a perfect 100 in the SuperPipe in the 2012 X-games.

 In the festival experience of a lifetime, besides the events, there will be live music being performed! The performances are headlined by The Chainsmokers and G-Eazy, with the shows being held at the end of every day of competition. The tickets for the concerts varies from $35-60 on top of your ticket to to get into watch the events. The tickets to experience these athletes attempt to do the impossible range from as low as $300 for a daily pass to $1,799 for a 4-day pass. As most of the tickets are already sold-out, some are still available to buy! If you cannot attend, you can still watch most all of the events live on ESPN throughout the week. On most days, the events start around 1 pm eastern time and end at about 12 am eastern time.

 The winter X-Games itself have been being held since 1995 in Newport, Rhode Island, and have been every year since. For the action sports world, this has become an annual showcase of the best talent from around the world. Now, the X-Games are held a couple times a year for both summer and winter. With all of these great athletes, events, and opportunities this year’s X-Games are a must see event!
