Helping one of his Civics and Economics students, Mr. Schneidewind shows off his humorous side. He believes that every student should recognize their strengths and weaknesses to be able to grow from them.

Mr. Brian Schneidewind is a humanities teacher who teaches Civics and Economics, AP Economics, Psychology, and Sociology. As well as teaching, he spends his time as the head coach for the Boy’s Track and Indoor Track teams. At Millbrook, he has dedicated thirteen years to coaching. Outside of school, Mr. Schneidewind likes to spend his time playing piano, running, and travelling. Most of all, he enjoys time with his wife of three years and playing with their two year old little girl.

As a coach, Mr. Schneidewind focuses on each individual student to ensure that they are always improving themselves. Junior Kiana Stotts said, “He knows a lot about technique, and he makes sure to tell you when he has seen improvement.” To get his runners ready for a meet, he does a lot of research in coming up with practice plans. While this would seem to be the hardest part of being a coach, Mr. Schneidewind said, “The hardest part is differentiation. To try on the one hand to teach a whole class or a whole team, but at the same time try to figure out the individual things that are strengths and weaknesses and how we can adjust those things to make them the best that they can be.” He believes that track is all about being able to grow and having your own goals to improve yourself.

While cross country has already had their successful season earlier this year, it is now the Winter Track runner’s time. Mr. Schneidewind says that although winter track has meets, it is more about conditioning and getting in shape. Last year, the boy’s team won conference, so he hopes to get everyone ready and win again in the spring. This is all about never settling, but to always try to beat your time even by thirty seconds. Jacob Irving, one of Mr. Schneidewind’s athletes, said, “He’s an encouraging coach who is determined  to help us become better student athletes.” Millbrook is known to have some of the best athletes across every sport. Mr. Schneidewind said, “People can say that we are good students, good members of the community, and that we try hard.” His anticipation for this year is for his athletes to be able to maintain that image and further themselves as much as they can. As long as the track team keeps working hard and doing what they know they can do, it is looking like a successful year!
