Having taken office in July of last year, Prime Minister Theresa May has announced that there will be a snap election later this year. This is one of many events that will define post-brexit Great Britain.

Just when the world thought the Brexit headlines were dying down, Prime Minister Theresa May makes a big decision. In a shocking announcement, the Prime Minister stated her decision to hold a snap election, which is an election held less than the typical five years after the previous one, on June 8 of this year. The Prime Minister explained in her speech that she made this decision because though Great Britain is making efforts to come together, Westminster is not, referring to the divide between the conservatives and the labour party. She went on to say this election is to put the majority in control and bring stability back to the deeply divided country. The campaigns have already begun, but in yet another twist, May said she would not participate in a televised debate with her opposition, saying she already faces them in weekly sessions known as the Prime Minister’s Questions. The other big motivation for the election is she wants to be a key player in Brexit negotiations and election will put her in a good position to do that. What the future has in store for the powerhouse country, only time will tell.
