On January 1, 2018, the New York Rangers will take on the Buffalo Sabers in the NHL’s 2018 Winter Classic. This will be the tenth annual Winter Classic that the NHL has held, the event having taken place on January first every year since 2008. The Winter Classic is a game that is played outside in either a baseball or football stadium as a remembrance of the player’s childhoods growing up and playing outside on ponds. This year’s game will be held in Queens, New York, at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets. You can find the game on NBC Sports at 1p.m. ET.

 The Buffalo Sabers played in the inaugural Winter Classic back in 2008, and the New York Rangers participated in the 2012 edition. The teams each released a special jersey for this game; they are never before worn jerseys and are made to look like the team’s vintage jerseys. The Rangers are wearing dark blue jerseys with white and red writing, and the Sabers have white jerseys with yellow and blue writing. The latest installment of the teams’ rivalry was reinstated because of the jerseys. Most all people believe the Rangers have the better jersey. As a response the Sabers wanted to prove them wrong. They had a Twitter poll and thought that everyone would vote for their jerseys. But the Rangers won the vote easily, causing some commotion and chuckles around the hockey world. Sophomore Charles Monteith added to that: “I agree with the twitter poll 100%. The Rangers jerseys are really nice and the Sabers ones are just ok.”

 So far this season the two teams have not played one another yet, but the Rangers record is 20-13-5  and the Sabers record is 10-20-8. The strong start to the season was not expected for the Rangers, but coming into the game, they have found themselves just outside a playoff spot. On the other hand, the Sabers have gotten off to a rough start so far, but any rivalry game is sure to be a good, hard -fought game.
