Among all the protests and show of support, the Golden Globes was an event packed full of monumental moments. One of the most notable times of the night appeared on the red carpet, with an outpouring of stars wearing black to show support for victims of sexual misconduct.

Hope for a new day on the horizon was the most emphasized message in Oprah Winfrey’s speech at the Golden Globe Awards given after being honored as the first African American woman to be awarded with the  CeCil B. DeMille Award. Her speech ended up being one of the most memorable speeches of the night, alongside Bruce Miller’s speech which he made after winning the award for Best Television Series. A night full of winners, losers, and awareness, the 2018 Golden Globes has become the hot topic of the week!

For the award portion of the night, there were many unexpected winners and losers. The Fan Favorite, Game of Thrones, did not win any awards, nor did movies like The Post, Get Out, Call Me By Your Name, or All the Money in the World. There were also many surprise winners of the night like Rachel Brosnahan, for Best Actress in a television Musical or Comedy in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and Allison Janney, for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture in I, Tonya.  Back on the red carpet, crowds of black moved swiftly into the performance space. Many stars brought along guests of honor who played major roles in women’s support groups like activist Marai Larasi, guest of Emma Watson. The fashion movement of the night, wearing all black, was to show their solidarity for sexual misconduct victims. This movement is being led by the new awareness campaign called Time’s Up. The Time’s Up organizers, Michelle Williams, Meryl Streep, and Amy Poehler, all came to the Golden Globes with #MeToo founder Rarana Burke. These movements all looked to bring awareness to sexual harassment victims, gender inequality, as well as hopes for a change in the near future. Oprah has similar hopes for the future, saying in her Cecil B. DeMille speech that change is not only one the horizon but imminent. Her speech has been the biggest talk of the past few days, with every new outlet asking if she is going to run for president in 2020. When asked about this in the past, Winfrey openly denied the comment, but at the Golden Globes she only chuckled and later gave an inspirational and strong speech. Whether or not she chooses to run for president, the speech she gave was monumental to say the least.
