Larry Nasser, former USA Gymnastics team doctor, has been sentenced to forty to one hundred fifty years in prison, with a minimum of twenty-five years. Nasser has been accused of sexually assaulting more than one hundred fifty young women during his time of employment at Team USA and Michigan State University.

Many women over the past few months came forward accusing Nassar of sexual abuse, including Simone Biles and Aly Raisman, two accomplished gymnasts of the 2016 Olympic team. Raisman was one of the women to go on trial and describe her horrific experiences with Dr. Nassar. Judge Rosemarie Aquilina sympathized with these victims and ultimately ruled in favor of them. Due to this ruling, the United States Olympic Committee wrote an apology to all of Nasser’s victims and inscribed steps  to avoid this atrocity from ever occurring again.

These reports came at a time where the #MeToo movement has been picking up steam. Women from all walks of life have been empowered to speak out against men who have assaulted them in the past. This movement has been prevalent in Hollywood, as many recognizable figures have also been accused of sexual abuse.
