Twenty-six-year-old pop star Demi Lovato is a self-proclaimed warrior, and fittingly so. Fans saw her hit a low point this past summer when she was hospitalized for a drug overdose but, after completing a 90-day inpatient rehab program, Lovato is better than ever, and prioritizing her health.

Demi Lovato’s name was found was on the Grammy’s list of nominees under Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her part in Christina Aguilera’s “Fall in Line.” The category also includes groups and other artist pairings like the Backstreet Boys, Tony Bennett and Diana Krall, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, Maroon 5 and Cardi B, Justin Timberlake, Chris Stapleton and Zedd, and Maren Morris and Grey. This is Lovato’s second Grammy nomination, as she was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album in 2017 for her album Confident.

The feminist anthem is a part of Aguilera’s album Liberation. The two executed a jaw-dropping performance at the Billboard Music Awards on May 20, 2018. A few days later, the duo shocked critics with the drop of their iconic music video. In the video, the two are taken as small children and held captive in a male-dominated underground facility. One day they rise against their oppressors and fight their way to freedom; consequently, they are able to return to their child selves, perhaps rekindling their innocence.

The celeb took to twitter after receiving word of her nomination. One tweet recounted listening to Christina Aguilera as a young girl in Texas. She goes on to express her disbelief with the whole situation. Christina replied in praise of Demi, calling her an inspiration for future young girls of her generation. The thirty-eight-year-old also shares that she believes the two were destined to cross paths.

Senior Ashton Cashwell is a passionate supporter of Demi’s music: “I think Demi is one of the strongest women in the music industry, and her last album shows every part of her life, even with struggling with addiction. We definitely need more women in the music industry that are talking about life struggles.”

The 61st Annual Grammy Awards ceremony will air live tonight from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on CBS. Tune in at 8pm to see performances by big name artists such as Cardi B, Shawn Mendes, H.E.R., Miley Cyrus, Post Malone.
