With the release of the most recent Spiderman movie: No Way Home, a new argument has sparked among Marvel fans over who played the best Spiderman throughout the years. Tom Holland currently plays Spiderman in the Marvel and Spiderman movies, but in No Way Home, both of the previous Spidermans made an appearance throughout the film. This was nostalgic for fans because they were reminded of their love for the old and new Peter Parkers. Although they only made an appearance for one movie, Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield have made a comeback for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and they have been sharing who they believe to be the “best” Spiderman.

Starting with the most recent and top-selling Spiderman, Tom Holland was a popular first choice for best Spiderman and Peter Parker. Although he is the most recent Spiderman, he has quickly become one of the most popular characters in the MCU. Spiderman: No Way Home has recently broken records as the number four highest box office seller of all time. Holland is the epitome of the “friendly neighborhood Spiderman” persona that he is supposed to be. Junior Eva Kaplan shares her opinion on Holland by saying, “I like Tom because of the way he portrays his character. He really captures the teen boy who has a super cool power and doesn’t really know what to do with it.” As long as Tom is playing Peter, Spiderman will continue to be a top seller.

Next is the heartthrob Andrew Garfield, who was in the least amount of movies. Despite only starring in both “Amazing Spiderman” movies,  his fame continues to soar, especially since his resurface in No Way Home. Junior Reiley Purcell says, “Andrew Garfield is the best Spiderman. He balances the Peter Parker part and Spiderman way better than the other two. He is also a very funny character.” Garfield’s self-esteem as Parker was not the highest in No Way Home, but hopefully he knows he is loved as Parker nonetheless.

Now throwing it back to the classics, Toby Maguire. Toby is the original Spiderman that fans all know and love. Featured in the first Spiderman movie, Maguire really filled the shoes as the Peter Parker fans have learned to appreciate and follow over the years. Millbrook students did not seem to choose Maguire as their favorite Spiderman, but that could simply be because he was before their time. The first Spiderman movie came out in 2002, which was before most Millbrook students were born. Only true Marvel fans can appreciate Maguire as Parker, but maybe his resurgence in No Way Home will spark the curiosity of fans to go back to the basics.

With fans on all sides of the spectrum, there is no correct answer for who is  the “best” Spiderman, but that may be the beauty of it. The Spiderman movies have been evolving since 2002, appealing to people of all ages and interests. Maguire, Garfield, and Holland all have their die-hard fans and have all been appreciated over the years. There are even people like Millbrook teacher Mr. Cope who like a different Spiderman  Mr. Cope says, “My favorite Spiderman is Ted Schwartz. He was the voice of the first ever Spiderman show/superhero show I watched. I’m sure I always would have loved the MCU, but my obsessions started with watching that show as a little kid in the 80’s on Saturday morning, so Ted Schwartz will always be my favorite.” Despite the differences of opinion on who is better, there will always be friendly neighborhood Spiderman.
