Millbrook High School Wildcats

Featuring Spring Sport Athletes in the 2022 season

Kendall Johnson, Section Editor

Whether participating in a sport to become a professional athlete or just for fun, school athletics are a great way to get active, involved, and make new friends. As the new freshman class of 2027 is just beginning their highschool experience, sports are a great way for them to become even more acclimated to Millbrook.

Millbrook has many sports that also range by season. Fall sports are already in-season so tryouts have passed, but those sports include: cheer, cross county, girls volleyball, girls tennis, girls golf, girls gymnastics, boys football, and boys soccer. Millbrook’s winter sports, which start around October to November and end their season around February, have not held their tryouts yet so those sports have open opportunities for new athletes. These sports are: boys basketball, girls basketball, indoor track, swim and dive, and wrestling. Lastly, the spring sports, which start around March and go up until the end of the year include boys baseball, boys golf, boys lacrosse, boys tennis, girls lacrosse, girls soccer, girls softball, stunt, and track & field.

Although it may be scary for new students to begin a new sport, they should be open to trying new things. Junior Vince Barefoot started track and field for the first time as a sophomore throwing discus and shot put. Vince says he would recommend trying a new sport at Millbrook: “Last season, I had a lot of fun with the team and I also liked the track coach. Although it was intimidating at first, it was worth it in the end because I made friends while getting to experience something new. I will be returning to track and field this season.”

However, students that may have a preference not to be involved in athletics or are waiting until next season to try out still have an abundance of opportunities to show their support for their fellow Wildcats. Senior Blake Mobely,  who participates in many sports at Millbrook, including football, track and field, and tennis says,“I love supporting the women’s sports like basketball and volleyball because they often don’t  get the attention they deserve and their games are interesting.” Blake also appreciates the support his peers show the football team. “Playing football is so much more enjoyable when we have the student section cheering behind us. It is important to show appreciation to all the athletes here that work so hard it definitely makes a difference.” On the Millbrook Athletics Website schedules for game dates and more information about tryouts can be found. Whether supporting sports teams or participating in them, Millbrook has ample opportunities for students interested in getting more involved in the school.
