This year marked the 37th Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, and there was not a single dull moment. The ceremony was held on Nov. 5 at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. The ceremony inducted some of music’s biggest stars who have had a grand impact on the music industry and fans across the world over the years. The list includes Lionel Richie, Dolly Parton, Eminem, Duran Duran, and others, including the likings of Carly Simon.

The course of the night consisted of speeches by inductees, performances, and tributes. The ceremony lasted upwards of six hours, kicking off at 7:00 p.m. and ending at 12:48 a.m. Celebrations lasted the whole night, and the energy in the room was electrifying. Following the induction of Duran Duran and Pat Benetar, it was time for the induction of the magnifying vocalist and songwriter, Carly Simon. Sara Bareilles took the stage to induct Simon despite her absence. Simon was unable to attend the ceremony due to a personal tragedy. Barely a week before, Simon’s two sisters both passed away from cancer, shocking the singer and bringing immense grief to her and her family. Days earlier, Simon honored her sisters, Lucy and Joanna, in an interview, saying, “As sad as this day is, it’s impossible to mourn them without celebrating their incredible lives.” Although Simon did not attend the induction she said that she was “humbled, shocked, and proud” to receive the honor.

Simon was honored by Bareilles performing “Nobody Does it Better,” her hit from the James Bond soundtrack, and “You’re So Vain,” Simon’s biggest hit performed by Olivia Rodrigo. Simon’s music is cherished by fans young and old, inspiring generations of music listeners to come.
