If you go to Millbrook, you’ve probably run into Kennedy Rouse at least once in your time here. She is a prominent figure in our school as a member of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, a part of Equity and Access In IB (EAC), and on the IB Executive Board (IBEX). Outside of the program, she is a participant in the Women In STEM club, and on the varsity volleyball team. But most importantly, at least in terms of creative cats, she is a member of the varsity dance team at Millbrook.

When asked how she got into dance, Rouse says that she was always “Watching other people on YouTube and enjoying the feeling that dancing gives me.” Her role on the Dance Team involves being a leader and someone people can rely on. Currently, she says she is working on “a solo, duet, and ideas for a group dance for the Winter Concert.” The concert consists of teacher and student made choreography that will be showcased in December!

“Kennedy is simply a good human,” Dance teacher and dance team coach Ms. Cruz said. “Her energy radiates positivity, and it is infectious! When she enters my classroom, I know it’s going to be a good day. I can always count on her to work hard, be passionate about what we’re creating, and to be knowledgeable. It’s clear that Kennedy is a talented mover and performer, something that everyone should get to see!”

Ms. Cruz praised Kennedy’s accomplishments while dancing for Millbrook, “Due to Kennedy’s amazing ability to create, and her performance quality she has been asked to showcase her choreography in two of our Dance Concerts!” she said. “Her choreography made the crowd get pumped and cheer and it also gave our younger dance students something to aspire to accomplish. Kennedy is also a member of the Wildcat Pride Dance Team where she has performed numerous times at football games, basketball games, pep rallies and Winterfest. I know Kennedy will continue to do amazing things in the future with dance.”

Outside of dance, this outstanding wildcat is a part of many extracurriculars here at Millbrook. Since she is in the IB program, she is also involved in EAC, which Kennedy explains as “A club that is meant for recruiting more people of color into IB and being a safe space to hangout and talk about issues we want to solve within IB.”

In IBEX she helps plan and organize IB events meant for providing student support to anyone in the program. As a member of the Women in STEM club, Kennedy has the opportunity to be inspired and empowered by women who are pursuing a career in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. This creative wildcat is planning on engaging in those fields after graduation!

Last but not least, Kennedy will conclude her final year on Millbrook’s Volleyball Team with a State Championship win under her belt. She played on the junior varsity team her freshman and sophomore year, but after the JV season ended, she was pulled up to varsity during her second year. After working tirelessly for the past four years, she shares, “Either way I would have been glad to have played with the team and form great relationships, but winning the championship made it ten times better.”

Be sure to catch Kennedy perform in the winter dance concert on December 16th! Ms. Cruz says she “10/10 recommends coming to watch her perform!”
