The 1972-73 Miami Dolphins can celebrate for another season after both of the remaining undefeated NFL teams lost this past week. This marks the 51st anniversary of the sole undefeated season in NFL history where the Dolphins ended their historic run with a Super Bowl Vll victory.
The last two remaining teams this season were the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers (5-0). Both teams came into their games as heavy favorites as they both faced struggling offenses and starting backup Quarterbacks.
The Eagles went against former #2 overall pick Zach Wilson, who is starting after Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles in Week 1. Zach Wilson has been criticized heavily for his lackluster performance in the first month of the season but has steadily progressed over the past 2 weeks, both on and off the field. He managed to limit his mistakes, especially the turnovers, as the Jets committed 0 as a team. The Eagles on the other hand played a sloppy game altogether headlined by Quarterback Jalen Hurts throwing 3 interceptions. Coincidentally the Eagles will take on the Miami Dolphins on Sunday Night next week.
Former XFL star PJ Walker, who filled in for the injured Deshaun Watson, took the helm for the Cleveland Browns against the piping-hot 49ers. The star-studded 49ers were led by 2nd year Quarterback Brock Purdy who was drafted with the 262nd pick in the 2022 draft. Unfortunately, running back Christian McCaffrey sustained a rib injury in the 2nd quarter. The Brown’s defense capitalized and shut down the 49ers’ offense in the 2nd half as McCaffrey is the focal point of the 49ers’ rushing attack and a big part of the dynamic 49ers passing game. Down two points heading into the final drive, Purdy and the San Francisco offense marched down the field setting up a Jake Moody field goal. Moody, a rookie out of Michigan, began his season 10/10 but struggled missing 2 kicks including the game winner as time expired. San Francisco will look to bounce back against the Minnesota Vikings (2-3) on Monday night.
