On December 14th Hollywood director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead in their Los Angeles home. The couple suffered multiple sharp force wounds that ultimately led to their passing.
Their deaths were ruled a homicide and their son, Nick Reiner was the immediate suspect. Nick was taken into custody and appeared in court on December 17th wearing an anti-suicide vest. Nick did not take a plea and was charged with two counts of first degree murder.
Nick’s defense attorney, Alan Jackson told the Los Angeles courthouse that, “it’s too early” which led to Nick’s arraignment being pushed back to January 7th of 2026.
Nick Reiner has been struggling with addiction, for what feels like to the people around him, almost all his life. In 2025 Nick helped co-write “Being Charlie” which was directed by his father. The movie appears to be a semi-autobiographical story about Nick’s struggle with addiction in his life. Nick’s addiction had caused a lot of rifts in his connection with his family.
The night before the couple was found dead they attended a party hosted by Conan O’Brien and brought their son along. Nick was not invited but his parents did not want to leave him due to recent circumstances. Attendees of the party recall Nick’s odd behavior. He was asking guests for their first and last names and if they were famous as well as yelling at his father. At some point the Reiners left the party but it’s unsure if they all left together.
Rob and Michele had two other children Romy and Jake who have recently spoken out on their parents untimely passing. They stated to press, “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
Rob Reiner started as an actor and gained mass popularity through his directing. He had his directorial debut with heavy metal mockumentary “This is Spinal Tap” in 1984. The sequel to this mockumentary came out just months before Reiner’s death. He is most known for his direction in “Stand by Me” (1986), “The Princess Bride” (1987), and “When Harry Met Sally…” (1989).
More details are constantly being shared about this case and court will resume for Nick Reiner on January 7th.
