Two brothers, one choice. Watch these trendy shows to see the romance and drama unfold.

Haven’ audiences seen this scenario before? The new hit show on Netflix, “My Life with the Walter Boys,” is a show about a young girl, Jackie, who moves to a new house in the middle of nowhere to live with friends of her parents who become her new family. There are many members of the family, but what catches Jackie’s and the audience’s eyes are the two older brothers of the family. This seems to be a trend where a girl falls in love with a set of brothers and has to choose which one she loves the most.

“The Vampire Diaries” and “The Summer I Turned Pretty” are both popular shows that are based on this same plotline. Romance and drama are what catch viewers’ attention the most, which is what these shows bring. However, there may be a problem with the story itself. These are three shows all with the same plot, so does it get less interesting to watch?

Junior Shelby Greene thinks so. “I think the shows are too similar plot wise. The point is to make high profit and create something interesting to the public, but after a while it becomes less interesting because I’ve seen this plot before,” Greene said.

The romantic subplot in “My Life with the Walter Boys” really dragged the whole story line down. The show was cheesy and didn’t grasp the full maturity of the concept. The audience was really upset when Jackie didn’t fall for the main love interest that everybody wanted her to. There could have been more added to develop rather than just copy the trend of two brothers, one choice.

“The Vampire Diaries” was a popular series in the early 2000s that started this trend. Many people were drawn to the show and it’s still popular today. This past year, the new series “The Summer I Turned Pretty” was the biggest show of the summer and gained a passionate, faithful audience with its use of the two brothers, one choice plot line.. The actors were amazing and really captured the aspect of romance and drama well. A big fan of both of these shows, senior Lila Jones shares her thoughts, “I really love seeing the shows because they’re based on books and it’s cool to see it come to life.”

All three of these shows are really interesting to watch and see how everything unfolds. Another season will be coming out for both “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” and “My Life With the Walter Boys.” Will the audience be happy with what comes next? How long will it be possible that the trend will keep going? Will the audience be disappointed? Catch “My Life With the Walter Boys” on Netflix, “The Summer I Turned Pretty” on Amazon Prime, and “The Vampire Diaries” on Max or Peacock to see what these shows have to offer!
