Every year, around Valentine’s Day, the Millbrook Choir Program hosts its Singing Valentines. The Singing Valentines are a way to fundraise for the program, celebrate Valentine’s Day, and spread some musical joy!
For five dollars, a student can buy another student, staff, or faculty member a Singing Valentine! These contain a special song, sung by members of Millbrook’s Advanced Choir, Celeste and Madrigals, a rose and candy. These Valentines were on sale from February 9th to the 11th during all three school lunch periods. They were performed by the choir groups on February 13th during the 4th period.
Choir program students from Celeste and Madrigals walked around campus during 4A, delivering these singing valentines and even making special stops for teachers and classes they wanted to sing and say happy valentines day to.
One group from Madrigals performed “Lay All Your Love On Me” by ABBA. This group consisted of Kael Alley, Danielle de Munk, Sophie Halabicki, Sophie Idler, Yazir James, and Carly Tesch. Another group from Madrigals, consisting of Sheila Awasthi, Taite Capes, Ava Moore, Jason Morrow, Juliet Tutino, Hannah Wheeler, and Sophie Winborne, sang “Pretty Little Baby” by Connie Francis. The final quartet from the Madrigals sang “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars. This group was composed of Oliver Allen
Rowan Nowlan, Jayden Paulson, and Noah Wilson. Quartet member and Sophomore Oliver Allen said, “I loved being able to work with my friends and entertain others,” when asked what his favorite part of Singing Valentines was.
From the Celeste choir, a trio formed by Lily Ibrahim, Sadie Kelsey, and Ella Jane Werner that sang “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” by Elvis Presley. Another group from Celeste also sang “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars. This group consisted of Lawson Gipple, Camila Jimenez, Harper Le Lewis, Gaby Pizarro, and Sherin Walter. Both of these groups spent a lot of their allotted class time working on these songs, perfecting their harmonies. The final group from Celeste performed “Die With A Smile” by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. This group consisted of Natalie Huebeler, Keira Reinhardt, Mariel Trice, and Audrey Williams.
Nearly 100 singing valentines were sold and performed by the choir program, helping raise money for sheet music and a new piano for their rehearsal space. Singing Valentines are a way to share the musical talents of the Millbrook Choir program and financially support the arts. The singing Valentines are impactful for the students who perform them as well. Sophomore Noah Wilson said, “I loved singing to that one IB Biology class because there was so much engagement and they seemed like they really enjoyed it!”
The MHS Choir Department also had a concert on February 26th to help them prepare for their Music Performance Adjudication in March. Tickets were only two dollars, and there were performances from all Millbrook choirs, one Brassfield Elementary Choir and two Sanderson High School choirs. Continue to go out and support your musical, Wildcats at the Spring choir concert on May 12th!
