Our next outstanding senior is Riley Clark! The award for outstanding senior goes to students who show traits of leadership, perseverance and overall outstanding traits throughout their high school career. Clark is a hard-working senior who maintained a 4.538 GPA and achieved all A’s throughout her high school career. Clark has made it a goal throughout her high school career to academically challenge herself and learn skills throughout high school that can help her in college and through her future.
Clark is involved in many extracurricular activities at Millbrook. Clark is the current historian for Millbrook’s National Honors Society, Co-chair on arts committee on Millbrook Executive Board and serves on the events committee as well, member of Millbrook’s National Science Honors Society and National Technical Honors Society, and played tennis for Millbrook for all four years as well as being a captain her senior year.
Clark stated one of her favorite memories from her time on the Millbrook tennis team is the community it builds. Clark stated, “I would say the bus, just hanging out with the team is my favorite memory.”
English teacher and NHS advisor, Kayla Moore, stated, “Her [Clark] hard work and determination carries over into her role as Historian for NHS. It is not just about posting on social media, but she does an amazing job keeping the records up to date and organized. Riley’s position really makes my role as the advisor more manageable when you have over 200 kids in NHS.”
Clark is very involved with the Millbrook Executive Board at Millbrook. MEB helps plan events and help run the student body for Millbrook. Clark stated, “One of my favorite memories from Millbrook is when we were at homecoming, we had to get here early to hold signs in front of the school. I was here until around midnight or 12:30, and it was just so fun, we were all tired but it was still so fun.”
As well as her outstanding extracurriculars, Clark also has stellar academic accomplishments. Clark is a member of Millbrook’s International Baccalaureate diploma program, and has challenged herself to keep her record of A’s. Clark stated, “Junior year was definitely challenging, before I began IB I had only taken two AP classes so I wasn’t too familiar with the workload.”
Moore stated, “I was thoroughly impressed with her hard work and determination last year as it related to her school work because she really puts forth a lot of effort in the work she does.”
Clark is currently committed to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is planning on majoring in business. Clark first became interested in business when she began her own business when she was younger. Clark stated, “I owned my own business for five years when I was younger. I sold a bunch of different items that I sewed. So that kind of sparked my interest in business.”
Clark’s advice to younger Wildcats is to become involved with Millbrook’s community earlier rather than later. “Get involved early, in as many things as you can. Some things you might lose over time as you become more committed to other clubs or extracurriculars. For example, I tried lacrosse. I’ve never played lacrosse besides my freshmen year but it was so much fun for me. So definitely try new things and get involved in as many things as you can.”
“What truly makes Riley stand out is her consistency, humility, and quiet leadership. She does not seek recognition for the work she does; instead, she shows up fully and commits herself to excellence in every space she enters,” says Ms. Moore. Riley Clark is an outstanding senior due to her stellar academics, amazing involvement in her community and her leadership qualities that have impacted Millbrook for the better. This accomplishment is well deserved. Congratulations Riley!
