As we head into spring, Millbrook High School students have nominated this year’s Outstanding Seniors. This award recognizes seniors who have a lasting impact on the community and other students. It not only acknowledges their influence but also their determination, merit, clubs, and athletics.
Among Millbrook’s Outstanding Seniors for 2026, Micah Ferguson is a constant presence on campus, bringing an energy and a work ethic that makes everyone around him want to do better. In school, Micah is a part of Millbrook’s dance team, Student Equity Team, National Honor Society for Dance Arts, Rho Kappa, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, English Honor Society, Black Student Union, and even more. Sophomore Karri Robinson noted that, “I feel like Micah has a special willpower to motivate himself,” and that she wasn’t surprised when he received this award because he is always kind to everyone. He has also won various other awards, including the Student Choreography award, the gold All-American medal at the National Dance Alliance summer camp, senior Homecoming Prince, and the Gaspard J. Dear music scholarship. While his contribution to Millbrook is clear, he also finds time to maintain a presence outside of class, making him truly remarkable. Micah sings for a worship team at his church, teaches dance to 7-12-year-olds, and also serves as a YMCA Counselor.
A big part of Micah’s life and high school experience has been his commitment to dance. In fact, this year, Millbrook’s dance team became the 2026 Small Int. National Champions. Because of his dedication to dance, he has had a special impact on other dancers and, no doubt, an impact on Millbrook’s dance teacher, Mr. Anthony. Micah’s resilience constantly inspires Mr. Anthony. He shared that Micah impacts him daily by showing up and putting lessons into practice with a positive attitude, maintaining a growth mindset even through hardships. Micah’s drive and open-mindedness set him apart and are among the many reasons he was given this title. When recalling a memory Mr. Anthony treasures about Micah, he mentioned that during his first year of teaching, after his parents had passed away, Micah, “along with other students, organized a GoFundMe and arranged giant posters that all my students signed, and collaborated with some visual arts students to create a beautiful portrait.” Not only that, but the following year, Micah had organized a “heartfelt video showing how much he and the dance program appreciated me as their dance director. There’s so much more I could say, but these moments really stick out.” It is these acts of kindness that define Micah’s character, proving that his talent is matched only by his empathy for the people around him.
Not only has dance been a major part of his high school career, but choir has as well. Millbrook’s choir teacher, Mr. Adams, describes Micah as a rare talent who can “do it all.” He has this natural way of leading where he can “command attention,” but he can do it without ever being overbearing, and being the kind of person everyone looks up to. Micah is a leader to many, but he leads with a warmth that makes everyone feel like they belong. Mr. Adams mentioned that Micah has this incredible gift for taking a vision and “bringing it to life” in a way that just clicks for people. Whether he’s singing, dancing, or leading, he has a way of making sure everyone, from his teachers to his peers, really feels the message.
As for the future, Micah aspires to build a career as a film director and writer with a goal of working for Netflix or Marvel. His next step is to pursue a degree in film, though he is weighing his options as he waits for final acceptance letters before he commits to a campus. When asked about advice he would give to other students, he emphasizes the importance of consciousness, “Be mindful of how you act in the hallways, how you treat people, who you surround yourself with, how you handle your grades. Just be mindful, be present.” Additionally, Micah has encouraged other dancers to be vulnerable and to “allow yourself to feel every emotion, express everything. Don’t hold back,” and that they are the only thing holding them back, highlighting the significance of self-acceptance. It’s that same spirit of vulnerability and leadership that defines Micah’s presence at Millbrook.
Congratulations to Micah Ferguson on this well-deserved honor. Between his artistic expertise and his leadership, there is no doubt that he will leave a lasting impact on Millbrook and go on to do great things.
