As a member of FCCLA, PTSA, NHS, Millbrook Executive Board, MU Alpha Theta, TRI-M, Millbrook Younglife, and as a Student Ambassador, Campbell O’Connor is an impressively active member of the Millbrook high school community.
Campbell recently celebrated receiving her acceptance letter into North Carolina State University, where she plans to major in social work, and possibly transfer into psychology later on in her college career. Campbell plans to get both her Bachelors and Masters degrees while in college, and after college, she wants to pursue a career field where she can work with kids. Campbell is already considering several career opportunities, such as becoming a clinical mental health counselor, a therapist, or a social worker. According to Campbell, she’s always liked working with kids, and during both jobs she had this past summer, working with kids was a crucial part of her position.
Campbell O’Connor has successfully maintained a 4.57 GPA throughout her high school career, and as of her junior year, she’s been dual enrolled in Wake Tech classes. Campbell is also a Student Ambassador and was a junior marshall, receiving a varsity letter her junior year for theater, while also being inducted into Millbrook’s Service Club during her senior year. Campbell O’Connor is a member of over 8 different organizations within Millbrook. She did Millbrook Swim and Dive in both her sophomore and junior years, and has been a part of the school Spring Musical all four years of high school.
Outside of school, Campbell takes pride in being involved with the Addis Jemari Teen Board since her freshman year of high school. Campbell is a part of the Addis Jemari Leadership Board. She traveled to Ethiopia through Addis Jemari and was a curriculum and graphics leader during the Arts and Literature summer camp. Campbell has participated in Youth Service Trips through her church and works as a camp counselor over the summer.
When asked about a favorite teacher she has at Millbrook, Campbell O’Connor said that, “I love Ms. Yopp, she helped me so much in AP Pre-Calc, and Ms. Carter, she’s just so sweet and kind. Also Ms. Fritz, she’s so understanding and she’s just always willing to help people.” Campbell also likes to give back to the teachers of Millbrook through PTSA as part of the hospitality committee. On teacher workdays, she serves lunch to the teachers and says that, “…it’s just always so much fun to give back to my teachers and give them some appreciation for all the work they do for me in general.”
Campbell is viewed as a thoughtful and welcoming person. Her peers would describe her as “thoughtful, welcoming, kind, and encouraging.” One of Campbell’s teachers mentioned that they’d describe her as a “smiley, enthusiastic, and energetic student,” while another would describe her as “organized and respectful.” Similarly to how her peers and educators describe her, Campbell strives to be a positive person. Campbell says that, “I just try to be a positive person… I just try to always brighten other people’s days, and be someone people can look towards if they need someone positive.” According to Campbell, it makes her happy to make other people happy.
One of Campbell’s favorite memories to look back on are her FCCLA achievements. Campbell is an FCCLA officer, and during her sophomore and junior years, she made it to the State FCCLA conference where she placed first. She ended up qualifying for FCCLA nationals, and was able to travel with FCCLA advisors and her fellow FCCLA members. Campbell described this as a great experience and thoroughly enjoyed getting to spend so much time with her fellow members.
Lastly, when asked for one piece of advice Campbell would give to rising juniors and seniors, Campbell advises them to, “…keep working hard and to stay involved, don’t give up, whatever you struggle with, let it motivate you.”
