On January 30, 2026, the Department of Justice publicized three million documents and photos relating to the case of Jeffrey Epstein. The release was in accordance with the recently passed Epstein Files Transparency Act, though the files were released more than a month after the bill’s required deadline. Also, in violation of the act, some information remains blacked out, but the release remains filled with many important revelations that rocked political spheres internationally.
The files contained the names of powerful men and women, including a member of the current administration’s cabinet and countless mentions of President Donald Trump himself. Multiple parts of the files led to concerns about Epstein’s involvement with foreign governments, and there were several instances where victims’ personal information was left exposed while Epstein’s associates were left protected.
The most alarming file update came from Representative Jamie Raskin on Tuesday, February 10. Raskin was one of the select Congress members who were granted access to the unredacted files. He claims that the president’s name came up “more than a million times” in the files when he searched as per Axios.
Soon after, a contradiction of one of President Trump’s previous claims about Epstein surfaced. Trump has made prior statements that he had no knowledge of Epstein’s crimes. According to CNN, when asked in 2019 if Epstein’s conduct with underage girls was known to him at the time, he said that he “had no idea.” However, a recently unearthed document in the files seems to debunk his previous claims. The Miami Herald reported that when Trump was interviewed by the police shortly after the Epstein investigation was made public, he said that “everyone has known he’s been doing this,” noting that he was glad Epstein was finally being held accountable.
There was even one particular document that seemed to be a list of disturbing misconduct allegations against Trump.
The files also contained concerning appearances of billionaires like Elon Musk, Leslie Wexner, Bill Gates, and more. Casey Wasserman, head of a major talent agency and chair of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee, has both of his positions in jeopardy after emails indicated his close relationship with Epstein co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell. Pop star Chappell Roan has announced she will be cutting ties with his agency, and other artists may be following her lead according to Forbes. The chief legal advisor at Goldman Sachs is also expected to resign in the middle of this year due to controversy over her close ties with Epstein.
Many European countries have opened investigations into high-ranking people following the discovery of relationship ties with Epstein. None other than the former prince Andrew have faced assault allegations. The UK’s Starmer administration, numerous royals, officials, and ex-officials from Norway, Slovakia, and France have been put under pressure as well.
European authorities were not the only international ties uncovered. Epstein’s emails exposed his connections with both Israeli and Russian governments. Epstein was shown to have an extended correspondence with Sergei Belyakov, a former high-ranking Russian official with connections to the country’s intelligence agency. Epstein aimed to collect information on a Russian woman whom he claims blackmailed a powerful group of New York businessmen. His links to Israel have been found to go even deeper. A 2020 source from an FBI memo believed that Epstein “was a co-opted Mossad agent” as reported by Al-Jazeera, and it was confirmed he had a close relationship with former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak. Epstein also made multiple donations to organizations connected with Israel’s conflict in Gaza and the preemptive activities to the current war, like Friends of Israel Defense Forces and the Jewish National Fund.
