Well-known American football player, O.J. Simpson died today, April 11 at age 76 after battling cancer. In the beginning of February, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and began undergoing chemotherapy. Simpson didn’t want the public to know about his diagnosis and denied all the rumors of him being in the hospital.
Simpson’s original claim to fame was his 11 seasons of football with the Buffalo Bills. Many of his fans referred to him as “The Juice” and that’s where the famous nickname O.J. came from. Later, he became known for his scandalous trial where he was accused of murdering his wife. It was a T.V. sensation for audiences in the 90s. Everybody knew Simpson and once the news about the murder spread, everybody was shocked. His famous Bronco chase down the San Diego Freeway left people staring at their T.V. screens in shock and awe.
His trial was a major turning point in the 90s for how our court system is run and how race plays a huge factor into that. The Simpson family wants people to respect their privacy and allow time to heal. O.J. Simpson will be remembered in many different ways, but his name is certain to stay relevant for decades after his passing.
